Students, pupils, citizens invited to activities dedicated to democracy at Moldova's parliament

Pupils, students and citizens are invited, throughout September, to a string of activities dedicated to democracy, civic education, participation and dialogue with citizens, organized by Moldova’s parliament in the context of the International Day of Democracy.

According to the parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Department, the schedule includes guided tours of parliament, discussions with MPs, civic education activities, creative workshops, topic-related exhibitions and interactive events.

An important part of the schedule is intended for pupils and students. They will be able to learn more about democracy and the work of the parliament, by taking part in the Democracy Hour, legislative simulation exercises, games and other educational activities.

Children will also be invited to a creative workshop where they can illustrate how they see democracy and parliament. At the same time, citizens visiting the institution will have the opportunity to leave concrete proposals for strengthening democracy in a specially designated box.

The sixth edition of the educational game, LAW for YOU(th), will take in September as well. In addition, the parliament will host the launch of the ninth edition of the national programme, Under Guguță’s Hat”, organized by the Association of Intellectual Games of Moldova.

On September 12, the gala concert of the Patriotic Music Festival, I Sing to You, Homeland and Nation, will be held in the parliament’s square. The event will bring together artistic ensembles and performers from all over the country, selected following a national competition.

Activities dedicated to democracy will also be organized in the regions. In Comrat and Taraclia, information campaigns and discussions with young people are planned on democracy, civic participation and the role of parliament in the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union.

The schedule of activities dedicated to parliamentary openness has been organized annually by the parliament since 2017 and is devoted to the International Day of Democracy, marked on September 15.

The International Day of Democracy was established after, in 2007, the General Assembly of the United Nations had adopted a resolution promoting the importance of democracy and democratic values worldwide.
