Moldovan education ministry launches mechanism of monitoring Ukrainian refugee children enrolled in schools, kindergartens of Moldova
The authorities have launched a mechanism of monitoring the Ukrainian refugee children, who are enrolled in educational institutions from Moldova, as well as who study online based on the Ukrainian curriculum.
The mechanism was initiated by the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), in partnership with the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund, the UN Refugee Agency and specialized education bodies.
Through the new mechanism, the specialized education bodies will nominate a person in charge of coordinating the registration process. This person will send the forms prepared by the MEC to all educational institutions, to be filled out by parents. Subsequently, the forms will be verified and the final data will be sent to the ministry.
Registration takes place directly at the educational institution for children enrolled registered. In the case of children studying online in Ukraine, the form can be physically filled out at local specialized bodies or downloaded and then sent via email.
Ivan Duminica, the head of the Inter-ethnic Relations Policy Service at MEC, said that the new monitoring rule would provide a clear picture of the real number of refugee children integrated into the educational system, regardless of whether they study physically in schools or online. This will ensure the inclusion of each child, without exception.
According to the latest centralized data, 3,510 refugee children are enrolled in general education institutions of Moldova, with 2,530 children in schools and 980 in kindergartens.
