Police to ensure public order in Moldova on May 9; individuals displaying prohibited symbols risk sanctions

Employees from the Interior Ministry’s will ensure public order and the smooth conduct of all events scheduled for May 9, when Victory Day and Europe Day are marked in Moldova. Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin has made statements to this effect at a show on Radio Moldova.

“May 9 is a day when we celebrate peace. The structures of the Interior Ministry  are prepared and will ensure the order and smooth conduct of all events planned for this day. Of course, the police and the carabineers will carry out their duties at all public events announced. Last year, we had over 47 events organized nationwide on this day. Just as in the last year, we will ensure the smooth conduct of these events, so that the citizens of Moldova, as well as our guests, can enjoy the holiday,” said Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin.

The official also warned that individuals displaying symbols promoting war and which are prohibited by law risk facing sanctions.

“The law is law and it must be observed. Symbols that promote war are prohibited by law and I urge all citizens to comply with the legislation, because the police will act in accordance with the provisions of the Contravention Code, if necessary. The law clearly stipulates that all signs that incite or promote war are sanctioned. This year as well, the police will enforce the appropriate measures, according to the provisions of the Contravention Code against both organizers and individuals promoting these signs,” the interior minister noted.

In this context, Daniella Misail-Nichitin urged citizens to observe the law.

“I encourage all citizens to observe the law every day, not just on May 9, because the measures have been approved and the police will properly document all incidents, including those involving the display of symbols prohibited by law,” the interior minister added.

On May 9, the Victory Day and Europe Day are marked in Moldova.
