Postal voting becomes accessible for Moldovans in Japan, Australia, South Korea, New Zealand
Parliament of the Republic of Moldova approved today in the second reading a bill aimed at extending and improving the postal voting mechanism, especially for Moldovan citizens in the diaspora.
The draft set up by a group of MPs of Action and Solidarity Party faction follows the experience gained during the presidential elections and the constitutional referendum in 2024, when this method was applied for the first time.
The bill also provides for the expansion of countries where postal voting will be available. Thus, the existing list—which includes the United States of America, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland—will be extended to include Japan, Australia, South Korea and New Zealand.
Also today, the MPs adopted a draft aimed at modernizing electoral legislation and the framework concerning the activities of political parties. This initiative is based on the recommendations of national and international observers, as well as the conclusions of the Constitutional Court, formulated following the recent elections.
