PHOTO // 28 public medical institutions of Moldova endowed with new sterilization systems; project's value reaches about 60 million lei

A total of 28 public medical institutions of Moldova today were equipped with new sterilization systems. The new equipment is essential for enhancing the quality of medical care, protecting patients and preventing nosocomial infections.

The inauguration event for the modern sterilization systems took place at the Emergency Medicine Institute from Chisinau. The beneficiary institutions are republican and district hospitals: the Emergency Medicine Institute, the Mother and Child Institute, the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery "Diomid Gherman", the Republican Clinical Hospital "Timofei Mosneaga", the Balti Clinical Hospital, as well as district hospitals from Anenii Noi, Calarasi, Causeni, Hancesti, Cahul, Cantemir, Straseni, Cimislia, Stefan Voda, Leova, Falesti, Soldanesti, Ungheni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Drochia, Floresti, Rezina, Rascani, Soroca, Telenesti, Sangerei and Glodeni.

In total, 29 sterilization complexes were purchased, valued at over 45 million lei, which include: steam sterilizers (capacity between 90 and 900 liters), automated devices for washing and disinfecting surgical instruments (100-500 liters/hour), automated water purification systems via reverse osmosis (100-200 liters/hour); 234 medical sterilization containers valued at 1.6 million lei; 40 medical carts, valued at 400 thousand lei, for transporting sterilized instruments.

At the same time, about 12 million lei was allocated from the state budget for the repair and preparation of the necessary rooms for setting the equipment.

"Proper and effective sterilization of medical instruments is an essential element for the safety of patients and medical staff. These modern systems not only prevent hospital-acquired infections, but also significantly contribute to the improvement of the quality of medical services provided. It is an investment in the health and safety of each patient. With these investments, we continue the modernization of the health system of Moldova, ensuring safe, efficient conditions that meet international standards," emphasized the Health Ministry.

The project is implemented in the context of the Health component of the COVID-19 Emergency Response and Support of Small- and medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) Project, funded by the Council of Europe's Development Bank. Its value amounts to approximately 60 million lei.
