Moldovan winemakers to attend Spring Wine Vernissage on 16 May

Spring Wine Vernissage, an edition dedicated to wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), will take place in Chisinau on 16 May.

“We celebrate origin and authenticity. For ten years, PGI wines have become a symbol of quality, the connection between grapes, soil, climate and tradition. Throughout the week, we will explain what PGI actually means - why it is important, what guarantees it offers, and how to recognize an authentic wine. Thus, when you arrive at the event, you will know exactly what you are choosing and what you have in front of you”, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry said.

In recent years, the Republic of Moldova has embarked on a broad process of certifying wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), which is a quality traceability system. Currently, in the Republic of Moldova, there are three PGI areas: Codru, covering the center of the country; Stefan Voda (southeast) and Valul lui Traian (south). In the case of Protected Geographical Indications, at least 85% of the grapes come from the delimited geographical region, and the remaining 15% from the country.
