Parliament speaker visits localities affected by torrential rains in central Moldova: over 100 households hit by bad weather

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today visited the localities affected by the heavy rains in the central Ialoveni district, where the authorities and intervention teams are continuing work to remove the consequences caused by the bad weather.

According to the speaker, last night was difficult both for the residents of the affected areas and for rescuers, road workers and representatives of local public administrations, who were mobilized to manage the situation.

“Today, I went to the villages affected by the heavy rains in Ialoveni district. It was a difficult night both for the locals and for the rescuers, road workers and local public authorities. Interventions are still underway at this hour, in order to remedy the consequences caused by the bad weather,” said Igor Grosu.

According to the information he presented, in Gangura commune, a road section with a length of approximately eight kilometers was hit and over 100 households suffered damage as a result of the abundant precipitation. In the localities of Puhoi and Tipala, there were massive accumulations of water, which caused the flooding of more households and the blocking of some sections of local roads.

The parliament speaker noted that the rains had caused damage in other regions of the country too and urged the population to exercise caution, given that meteorologists are forecasting precipitation for the coming period.

“It is important that, on these days, we stay vigilant, follow the recommendations of the authorities and call the 112 Service if necessary,” underlined Igor Grosu.

At the same time, the official expressed gratitude to the rescuers and firefighters of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), the police officers, road workers and local authorities involved in managing the situation and providing support to the affected communities.

The heavy rains of June 6 caused floods, road blockages and damage in more settlements of Moldova, requiring 65 interventions by rescuers and firefighters. According to the IGSU, the worst hit areas were in the districts of Ialoveni, Straseni, Drochia, Telenesti, Soroca, Rezina and Sangerei, as well as in the municipality of Chisinau and the town of Durlesti.
