Government Spokesperson about request for pay raise for teachers: Government to present identified solutions as soon as possible
Teachers are entitled to expect salary increases. The issue is the Government’s number one priority this week, and it will present the identified solutions as soon as possible. The position was expressed by Government Spokesperson Dumitru Ciorici, after the trade unions announced their intention to organize a protest on Wednesday, August 19, to demand “the fulfillment of commitments regarding raising teachers’ salaries”.
Ciorici emphasized that in recent weeks, several meetings have been held to identify feasible options for the current situation.
“Teachers are entitled to expect salary increases – a fully legitimate expectation. The issue is the Government’s number one priority this week. In recent weeks, several meetings have been held to identify feasible options. The Government will present the identified solutions as soon as possible,” he said.
Trade Union Federation of Education and Science announced in today's press release the organization of a protest scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in the Great National Assembly Square in Chișinău. “This action is driven by the need to fulfill the commitments made by the authorities regarding raising the salaries of teachers and auxiliary staff starting September 1, 2026,” it reads.
