VIDEO // Education Minister on World Science Day: We want strong research sector to underpin economic growth

Research is essential for promoting the international reputation of the Republic of Moldova and for the country's contribution to human knowledge. At the same time, we want a strong research sector to contribute to strengthening the national economy and to be one of the pillars upon which our economic growth is built. The statements were made by Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, who delivered a message today on World Science Day.

The minister stated that the authorities have implemented several actions in recent years to support the research sector. These include increasing funding, raising scholarships for PhD students, opening new project opportunities alongside colleagues from Romania, and launching, for the first time, national research projects totaling over 100 million lei.

"In the coming years, as we approach the moment of integration into the European Union, there will be more and more opportunities that I want us to seize together. Research has enormous potential to attract European funding, and the Ministry of Education will support those who want to write projects, who want to do more, and who need additional support," stated the Minister of Education.

Dan Perciun further added that the authorities plan additional investments in research infrastructure, with support from the World Bank and the European Union. In addition, new training, mentoring, guidance, and partnership opportunities with Romania and other European states will be offered to leverage Horizon Europe funds.

"I am confident that if we continue the partnership we have started, we will not only stabilize our research sector but elevate it to a new level, infusing it with more energy, determination, and potential to attract international funding," emphasized the Minister of Education.

The World Science Day for Peace and Development is celebrated annually on November 10 at the initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) since 2001.
