DOC //Medical leave certificate to be issued in digital format
The medical leave certificate will be issued in digital format and can be accessed online. Upon request, it will also be available in printed format, accompanied by a QR code that will allow for authenticity verification. The new rules will take effect from March 1, 2026, according to a government decision published today in the Official Journal.
The document aims to simplify the procedure for issuing the medical certificate, so that patients benefit from quick and transparent services, and doctors can fulfill their duties as efficiently as possible.
The issuance, extension, and completion of medical leaves will be possible not only by family doctors and hospitals but also by all specialists, eliminating current complicated procedures.
There will also be extended digital access for patients, employers, and healthcare providers through the Medical Certificates Portal, the Governmental Citizen Portal, and the EVO application.
Employers will receive automatic notifications regarding the initiation of a medical leave certificate for an employee.
According to statistical data, over 420,000 medical leave certificates are issued annually in the Republic of Moldova, and their printing costs over 1.4 million lei each year. Manual processing of certificates takes from 15 minutes to an hour for each case.
The medical leave certificate is the official document that certifies that a person is unable to perform professional activities due to health conditions. It serves as the basis for granting the corresponding allowances.
