Moldovan president says Moldova to continue to work with ambition, seriousness
President Maia Sandu today in Chisinau met President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola. The discussions focused on the next steps of the accession process, the alignment of national legislation with the EU acquis, and the continuous support provided by the European Parliament to Moldova.
President Maia Sandu welcomed the opening of the European Parliament Liaison Office and emphasized that it would facilitate coordination between Chisinau and European institutions, in order to adjust the national legislation to European standards. About 3,000 European acts are to be transposed through over 1,000 national acts.
"We will continue to work with ambition and seriousness — and we are confident that the pace will remain resolute on both sides," said President Maia Sandu
During the visit, the officials also participated in a discussion with young people from the Spiru Haret Theoretical Lyceum from Chisinau. The students asked questions about the country's European future, reforms and the opportunities brought by the EU membership.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola today paid an official visit to Chisinau, on the occasion of the start of activities of the new parliament, elected on September 28th and the inauguration of the European Parliament Liaison Office. At the parliament’s plenary meeting, Mrs. Metsola delivered a powerful message of appreciation for the European choice made by the citizens of Moldova and reaffirmed the European Parliament’s political support for the country's accession to the European Union.
