Sports team due to represent Moldova at Summer World University Games receives national flag
Moldova will be represented by 31 sportspeople at the Summer World University Games (FISU World University Games Summer 2025), due to be held in Germany on July 16- 27.
Today, in Chisinau, judoka Adil Osmanov, who brought Moldova a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, was handed the National Flag of Moldova.
“It is a great honor for me to carry the flag and represent the country. Come on, Moldova!” said Adil Osmanov.
At the Summer World University Games, Moldovan athletes will compete in various events, such as archery, athletics, judo, rowing, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and beach volleyball.
According to Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, the competition is equivalent, in many respects, to the Olympic Games, being one of the most important international sports competitions and an extraordinary opportunity for young sportspeople to assert themselves.
“We hope that Moldova will win as many medals as possible out of the 234 available by the organizers. Dear sportspeople, through your effort, ambition and sacrifice, you follow a tradition of excellence and perseverance. In recent years, sports in Moldova have reached new heights, and you are part of this process of modernization and growth. We achieved the most impressive results at the 2024 Olympic Games and we expect and hope to have comparable results at the Universiade,” said Dan Perciun.
Secretary General of the Moldovan Student Sports Federation, Veaceslav Mirzac, presented the composition of the national team that will represent Moldova at the competition in Germany.
The Summer World University Games (FISU World University Games Summer 2025) will take place in the Rhine-Ruhr region, Germany. About 8,500 sportspeople and officials from over 150 countries will participate. Athletes will compete in 18 disciplines for the 234 medals prepared by the organizers.
At previous editions of the Summer World University Games, Moldova won 27 medals, including four gold, four silver and 19 bronze. At the last edition, held in Chisinau in 2023, the country was represented by a delegation of 18 sportspeople, three of whom managed to win medals.
