
Movie theatre reopened in south – eastern Moldova town, after nine years of reconstruction
Chisinau, 07 November /MOLDPRES/ – The cinema that will be named after the famous actor Grigore Grigoriu was inaugurated on 07 November in Causeni city, the artist's home town. The event took place 15 years after the death of the artist, which brought the fame of the Moldovan film far away from Moldova.
The cinema was reopened after more than nine years of reconstruction. The opening of the cinema was possible due to investments of the actor's son, Octavian Grigoriu. Also, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) contributed MDL 500,000. Twice a week, there will be presented different films without copyright, and the entry will be free.
"This week we will be screen Poienile Rosii – the landmark film of the national cinema, the first film in Romanian, because until then the films were only in Russian," said Octavian Grigoriu.
The stage of the renovated cinema will also present theatre performances.
Grigore Grigoriu was born on 04 April 1941 in Causeni city (Tighina county). After graduating from middle school, he became an amateur actor on the stage of Causeni folk theatre. In 1959 he was employed as actor at the National Theatre Vasile Alecsandri in Balti, and then played at Dialog television in 1965 – 1970. In 1970 he became an actor on the stage of Theatre Luceafarul. In 1977, the actor Grigore Grigoriu won the Grand Prix at the International Film Festival in Prague for the best male role in film: O satra urca spre cer.
Grigore Grigoriu had no school in acting. Prior to becoming an actor, at the urge of his mother, the late artist worked on the railroads. In over 40 years of career, the artist participated in 50 films.
The actor died 15 years ago when he returned from a hunting party in village Palanca, Stefan Voda district.
