Transnistrian presidential election results

Chisinau, 12 December /MOLDPRES/- Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the self-proclaimed Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky is the new leader of the Transnistrian region, the so-called central election commission in Tiraspol announced today.

“Vadim Krasnoselsky won the presidential elections in the first round, getting over 62 per cent of votes. Current president Yevgeny Shevchuk picked up less than 28 per cent of voters”, a communiqué by the electoral commission from the left bank of the Dniestre reads.

The official results from Tiraspol confirmed the information by the centre for studying public opinion from Russia responsible for monitoring the elections in the region. Under the institution, Krasnoselski won 69.8 per cent of votes. “Surveys were conducted at one hundred polling stations from all Transnistrian settlements. Candidate Krasnoselski got 69.9 per cent of votes, and current leader Yevgeny Shevchuk -18.8 per cent”, a report by the institution reads.

Krasnoselsky was born on 14 April 1970 in Chita region, Russia, and was determined to live in Bender city since 1978. He graduated from the military school in Kharkiv (Ukraine), University T. G. Shevchenko in Tiraspol. Since 1993 he has been working at the internal affairs bodies in the separatist region. In December 2015 he was elected chairman of parliament.

According to the media from Tiraspol, Krasnoselsky was supported during the election campaign by holding Sheriff and United Russia party led by President Vladimir Putin.

On 11 December, presidential elections took place in Transnistrian. Residents of the region had to elect someone from the six candidates.

Under the so-called central election commission from Tiraspol, about 60 per cent of the residents set in the electoral rolls (nearly 400,000 citizens) exercised their right to vote.
