Chisinau, Nov. 10 /MOLDPRES/ - Mihai Eminescu Theoretical High School in Ungheni municipality was inaugurated yesterday after being energy efficient and modernized with the EU support.

Thanks to the projects financially supported by the EU, the Mihai Eminescu high school has become more energy efficient and more comfortable for about 1200 pupils and over 100 teaching staff. Also, the water supply and sewage system has been rehabilitated and expanded over a length of about 20 km. The works aimed at ensuring better living conditions for the inhabitants.

"The EU contributed almost 40 million euros to support the increase of access to public services at the local level in the Republic of Moldova. The efforts made to increase energy efficiency have yielded results and the high school can be as an example for other public institutions in this regard. At the same time, we mark the completion of the extension and rehabilitation of the water supply and sewage system. Both projects are aimed at improving the quality people's lives and the protection of the environment, and the EU is with Moldova in this process," said Jānis Mažeiks, head of the EU Delegation to Chisinau.

Attending the event, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, said that ensuring energy security is a priority of the government. "In the context of the crisis we are facing, the identification of alternative sources and the energy efficiency of public buildings will help us reduce energy consumption and thus reduce costs," he said.

The project is estimated at about three million euros, of which 2.9 million were offered non-refundable by the EU, and the rest is a local contribution. Respectively, the value of the project Rehabilitation and expansion of the water supply and sewage system in the municipality of Ungheni is almost 2.65 million euros, of which approximately 2.4 million were offered as non-refundable by the EU, and the rest is a local contribution.
