Authorities to set up new National Strategy for Agricultural, Rural Development
Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment will work out a new National Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development (SNDAR) 2021-2030.
To start work on the new document, the ministry's specialists evaluated the National Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development for 2014-2020 in terms of four key dimensions of the actions implemented: relevance, efficiency, effectiveness and impact.
"It was established that in terms of financial coverage, for the period 2014-2020 there were sufficient financial means to achieve the objectives set by the Strategy, but the main challenge for the agricultural sector, both during the implementation of the Strategy and further climate change and their harmful effects ", MADRM said.
In 1994-2020, over 37 international donors contributed to the development of the agro-industrial sector, the rural and ecological environment of the Republic of Moldova. Donor programs and projects have had and continue to have an important impact both on the development of the agro-industrial sector and on increasing the capacity for institutional strengthening, which is one of the key moments in reforming the sector. The new Strategy will ensure the alignment of national policy in the field of agricultural and rural development with the objectives of the Common Agricultural Policy: ensuring a stable and fair economic future for farmers; setting greater ambitions for environmental and climate action.
The new strategy will ensure a continuity of initiatives implemented with the support of development partners.
Among the priority actions that will be found in the National Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development for the period 2021-2030 are: ensuring a decent income for farmers; combating climate change and reducing (mitigating) its impact; supporting generational renewal; increasing competitiveness; ensuring environmental protection through agri-environmental schemes; dynamic development of rural areas; restoring balance in the food chain; landscape conservation and biodiversity; food quality protection and health.
At the same time, those responsible for drafting the document mentioned that activities related to reducing the level of poverty in rural areas continue to be a priority, by creating favorable conditions for increasing the incomes of the poorest members of rural society; increasing the competitiveness of the agri-food sector; adapting agricultural producers to climate change; stimulating the growth of strategic and business agricultural activities in rural areas.
