Chisinau International Airport among most efficient in Europe in terms of passenger traffic's growth
The Chisinau International Airport ranks third in Europe among airports with remarkable growth of passenger traffic, according to the latest report published by Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe).
According to the cited source, in the category of airports with annual traffic of 1 – 10 million passengers, the Chisinau International Airport recorded a growth of +41.9 per cent in the first half of 2025, compared to the same period last year. This performance places it third in the European ranking, after Vigo airport in Spain (+472.7 per cent) and Kutaisi in Georgia (+49.3 per cent).
The positive evolution is assigned to the constant expansion of the route network and the increase in the number of airlines operating at the capital's airport. While in 2022, the airport was served by 20 airlines offering access to 56 direct destinations, passengers now enjoy 29 airlines and 71 direct destinations available.
Data by ACI Europe’s - an organization representing over 600 airports from 55 countries and covering over 95 per cent of European commercial air traffic – shows that the passenger traffic in Europe stays at a high level of resilience, despite challenges posed by the regional geopolitical and economic context.
This performance reconfirms Chisinau International Airport's role as a key connectivity point in Southeast Europe and highlights the progress made in developing the aviation infrastructure of Moldova. At the same time, the expansion of air links contributes to facilitating citizens’ mobility, stimulating tourism, and attracting investments, the quoited source added.
