Energocom company of Moldova requests gas prices' adjustment after 42-per cent rise in European quotations
The joint-stock company Energocom today submitted to the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) an application to adjust the regulated prices for the supply of natural gas to certain categories of end consumers.
The request is prompted by rising natural gas procurement costs. According to Energocom, since the company’s previous price adjustment request, submitted on July 15, 2026, the European gas market has recorded a 42.15-per cent increase.
The company attributes the development to more external factors, including heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, reduced liquefied natural gas deliveries, low European storage levels, competition with Asian markets for available volumes and uncertainties regarding supply during the cold season.
“When the regulated prices currently in force were approved, an average natural gas procurement price of approximately 56.25 euros/MWh was used for the August–December 2026 period. Subsequently, TTF reference quotations on European markets recorded significant increases and exceeded 75 euros/MWh,” the company said.
Under these conditions, Energocom says it is recording negative tariff deviations, meaning that it is procuring natural gas at prices higher than the ones included in the current tariff. According to the company, legislation requires it to request that ANRE revises the regulated prices in such situations.
Energocom estimates that the TTF Front Month index for October 2026 will reach approximately 76.6 euros/MWh and remain at comparable levels in next November and December. Consequently, the average gas delivery cost for the remainder of this year is estimated to be higher than the cost included in the regulated prices currently in force.
The company specifies that natural gas is procured under forward contracts, with the price determined according to the TTF Front Month formula, which represents the average closing price of the exchange on the trading days of the previous month.
According to the application submitted to ANRE, Energocom proposes the following regulated prices, excluding VAT:
• 18,744 lei per 1,000 m³ at entry points into the transmission network;
• 19,331 lei per 1,000 m³ at exit points from the transmission network;
• 19,727 lei per 1,000 m³ at exit points from high-pressure distribution networks;
• 20,796 lei per 1,000 m³ at exit points from medium-pressure distribution networks;
• 24,305 lei per 1,000 m³ at exit points from low-pressure distribution networks.
Energocom emphasizes that the requested prices represent a tariff proposal and were calculated in accordance with the approved methodology, based on the actual and projected costs of the regulated service.
The decision to approve, amend or reject the request rests with ANRE, following an examination of the supporting documents and calculations submitted by the supplier.
Energocom assures that it is monitoring developments on international natural gas markets and their impact on procurement costs. If international prices decline and conditions arise for a tariff reduction, the company says it will ask ANRE to review the regulated prices, in accordance with the legal framework and applicable methodology.
