Prime Minister visits New York: bilateral meetings and address to plenary of UN General Assembly

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan is paying a working visit to New York on 23-26 September to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The official will deliver an address to the plenary of the UN General Assembly on September 26.

The visit’s agenda also includes bilateral meetings with heads of government, discussions with representatives of the business community in the United States of America, as well as a meeting with Moldovan citizens residing in the United States.

According to the Government’s Communication Department, during the discussions, the Prime Minister will focus on strengthening economic and investment relations, attracting American investment, and promoting the opportunities offered by the Republic of Moldova. The talks will also address the country’s European path and security developments in the region.

The UN General Assembly is the Organization’s principal policymaking body. Bringing together all member states, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussions on the entire range of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations.

The main theme of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly is Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All. The session will bring together heads of state and government, as well as foreign ministers from UN member states, to address the main developments and challenges on the international agenda.

The Republic of Moldova became a member of the United Nations on March 2, 1992.
