Entrepreneurs of Moldova can access funding to strengthen energy efficiency; Switzerland provides 1.85 million euros

At least 24 enterprises of Moldova will receive funding from Switzerland, totaling 1.85 million euros, in order to strengthen energy efficiency. The grant agreement for the project titled, Enhancing Energy Resilience of SMEs (Small and Medium-sized enterprises) in Moldova, was signed in Chișinău today.

The agreement is part of the Strong Businesses and Communities for Moldova project, financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and the government of Switzerland. The project aims to reduce the vulnerability of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to energy shocks, by supporting investments in energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy solutions and the modernization of production processes.

The total project budget is 3,681,800 euros, of which 1,850,000 euros represent the grant provided by Switzerland, and 1,831,800 euros constitute the entrepreneurs’ contribution to the implementation of the investment projects. The co-financing process for companies will be carried out through the non-reimbursable financial support instrument for SMEs’ development – “CREȘTEM IMM” – managed by Entrepreneurship Development Organization (ODA).

The project will be implemented between December 2025 and September 2026, during which beneficiaries will be selected and the implemented investments will be carried out and monitored.

“We know how much work, courage and responsibility lie behind each business. Through this agreement, we want to give entrepreneurs the confidence that investments in modernization and energy efficiency are secure steps toward long-term stability and development,” said ODA Director Vadim Codreanu at the agreement signing event.

Head of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova Guido Beltrani emphasized that the initiative provided companies with the resources they need for sustainable development. “Supporting energy efficiency in the entrepreneurial environment is a key area of our cooperation,” the official said.

Karin Horhan, Programme Manager at GIZ Moldova, reiterated GIZ Moldova’s commitment to supporting the SMEs’ sector: “This partnership gives us the opportunity to transform financial resources into concrete investments, managed efficiently and focused on measurable results for the SMEs’ sector. By working with ODA, we ensure the transparent implementation of projects that support the modernization and energy efficiency of beneficiary enterprises,” noted Karin Horhan.

Financial support per company can reach up to 50 per cent of the value of the investment project, contributing to more efficient energy consumption and emission reductions.

Companies that have received technical support from GIZ for conducting an industrial energy audit can submit applications for funding under the dedicated call available on the ODA’s website.
