Large infrastructure projects, capital investments to be accelerated in Moldova

The process of implementation of major infrastructure projects and capital investments will be monitored through weekly evaluations, so that the execution of works is accelerated. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan presented a proposal to this effect at the beginning of the cabinet meeting.

According to the PM, at least 29 major projects are currently underway, for which 23.5 billion lei was budgeted this year.

The PM has ordered that the major projects be publicly announced and that weekly updates on the progress made be presented, in order to evaluate the implementation of each project and prevent delays.

“According to our plan and programme, we have committed to implementing a string of major projects. Most of them are under the responsibility of the Infrastructure Ministry, but there are also some within other ministries. At present, we have at least 29 large projects. For this year alone, capital investments of 23.5 billion lei are budgeted. Today is July 22 and we have used approximately 25 per cent of these funds, which means we are behind in projects’ implementation. As we promised in our programme, we must bring more visibility to these projects. They need to be publicly announced and there must be a public dashboard where we can see the progress of each project. I believe that, at every government meeting, we will need to have an update on each of these 29 projects. Their number may decrease or increase, but at this moment there are 29. It is important that at least these major projects, which can truly move things forward, are monitored and managed in a very active manner,” the prime minister said.

The cabinet headed by Vasile Tofan held its first meeting today.
