Moldovan government approves organizational changes in military leadership; General Staff of National Army to be renamed Defence Staff

The government today approved the change of the name, General Staff of the National Army, which will be replaced by Defence Staff.

According to the Defence Ministry, the change is part of the process of modernizing and strengthening the military command system, as well as aligning it with Western standards, with the aim of improving interoperability with external partners and strengthening national security.

Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii said that the reorganization aimed to streamline the command structure and clarify institutional responsibilities.

“The need to develop the draft is determined by the process of modernizing and improving the military command system, by institutionalizing the Defence Staff as a distinct central structure with clearly defined responsibilities, in accordance with international standards for the organization of national defence,” the minister noted.

The authorities specify that the changes were mainly terminological and organizational in nature and did not affect functional responsibilities or staffing structure.
