Moldova is on path of becoming transit route for regional energy flows

Moldova is on the path of becoming a transit route for regional energy flows, including liquefied natural gas from the United States that arrives in Greece and continues to Ukraine. President Maia Sandu in Athens today made statements to this effect, after a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“Moldova is on the path to becoming a transit route for regional energy flows, including liquefied natural gas from the United States that arrives in Greece and continues to Ukraine. We supported this effort by halving transit tariffs, making this route even more attractive and commercially viable. This is a practical contribution to supporting Ukraine and strengthening regional energy security at a time when resilience truly matters,” said Maia Sandu at a press conference held jointly with the Greek PM.

The head of state, Maia Sandu, said that Greece had become a key pillar of regional energy security, due to the rapid expansion of renewable sources and strategic investments in infrastructure, which allow for the supply of diversified and reliable energy in Southeast Europe.

At the same time, Maia Sandu welcomed the new strategic agreement between Greece, Bulgaria and Romania regarding the Black Sea–Aegean Sea Corridor—an important transport corridor that will strengthen links in the region.

“We would be delighted to see this corridor further extended to Moldova and Ukraine, connecting our broader region and enhancing trade, mobility and resilience for all,” emphasized the head of state.

President Maia Sandu today paid a working visit to Greece, where she met  President of Greece Konstantinos Tasoulas and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
