Moldovan deputy PM in Washington says World Bank's assistance crucial for Moldova's European integration
World Bank’s assistance is crucial for the European integration path of Moldova, contributing to the reform of regulations, the digitalization of public services, the improvement of tax administration and the development of critical infrastructure. Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu has conveyed a message to this effect. The official had a meeting with Antonella Bassani and Kim Sangbu, Vice Presidents of the World Bank Group in Washington.
The deputy PM stressed that the discussions had focused on deepening cooperation and accelerating ongoing projects, especially the ones in the areas of digitalization and Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises' (SME) competitiveness.
“The importance of the World Bank Group for Moldova is fundamental, as it plays an essential role in supporting reforms, strengthening institutions and modernizing key sectors of the national economy,” the official said.
Eugeniu Osmochescu appreciated the long-standing cooperation between Moldova and the World Bank Group, as well as the constant support provided through a portfolio of approximately 1.7 billion dollars. According to him, this has a direct impact on improving public services, advancing structural reforms in key areas of the economy, fostering social development and ensuring the well-being of the country’s citizens.
At the same time, the discussions focused on expanding the World Bank’s involvement in strategic areas for the sustainable development of Moldova.
Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, together with Cristina Ceban, Secretary of State of Economic Development and Digitalization Ministry, paid a working visit to Washington, D.C., this week. The official had a string of meetings with representatives of government institutions, international organizations, think tanks and American companies, focused on developing bilateral cooperation and attracting investments in Moldova.
