Moldovan government declares state of alert in energy sector
The government is declaring a state of alert in the energy sector, in the context of regional developments and the conflict in the Middle East, which have led to rising prices for oil products. The cabinet of ministers, which convened at an extraordinary meeting, approved a decision to this effect today. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said that the decision was necessary, in order to manage the situation efficiently.
“It is a complicated situation. The decision is necessary not to create panic, but to manage the situation efficiently,” said Prime Minister Vasile Tofan at the beginning of the government meeting.
“The reality is that we must acknowledge when we have crisis situations and manage them in a proactive manner. That is the purpose of the today’s meeting. We have all followed developments in the energy sector, both on the oil market and on the gas market, as well as in the hydrological sector, where we have a complicated situation on the Dniester River. That is why, I have respectfully convened this meeting, in order to adopt a string of measures. We have three items on today’s agenda. The first item concerns the declaration of a state of alert in the energy sector. The second item, the declaration of a state of alert in the hydrological sector. And the third item is a procedural one, but it gives the Crisis Management Center greater intervention capacity,” noted Vasile Tofan.
Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu justified the need for the decision by the necessity to ensure the continuity of fuel supply.
The government on July 27 announced a set of actions to reduce the diesel deficit at some fuel stations of the country. Thus, two barges loaded with approximately 6,000 tons of fuel have entered Moldova in the last 24 hours. At the same time, another 6,000 tons of diesel are to arrive in the country today.
