State of alert in energy sector. Customs Service introduced temporary measures on export and re-export of petroleum products

The Customs Service will allow the export and re-export of main standard-type petroleum products from the Giurgiulești International Free Port (GIFP) only if the stored stocks exceed: 8,000 tonnes of gasoline and 25,000 tonnes of diesel. The measure is applied in the context of the declaration of a state of alert in the energy sector.

According to the Customs Service, economic operators that carry out operations with main standard-type petroleum products must take these requirements into account.

“The general operator of the GIFP will submit daily to the Customs Service information on the stocks of standard-type petroleum products stored in the port. At the same time, the main standard-type petroleum products placed under the customs procedures of release for free circulation (import), temporary storage or customs warehousing may not subsequently be placed under the export or re-export procedures,” the institution announced.

In addition, to ensure the continuity of supply to the domestic market, the Customs Service will apply priority customs clearance for petroleum products at import, through dedicated corridors, in order to streamline trade flows and reduce processing times.

In the Republic of Moldova, a state of alert at national level in the energy sector has been declared for a period of 60 days, starting from March 4 of this year. The decision was approved by the Government. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated that “this is a preventive measure aimed at protecting the country’s energy security”.
