Moldovan Prime Minister on US announced tariffs
Prime Minister Dorin Recean said today that the government will intervene to help entrepreneurs exporting products to the US market maintain the competitiveness. The decision comes in context of the increased customs tariffs announced by the White House leader for several countries, including the Republic of Moldova.
Dorin Recean said that the US decision will affect about 2.5 percent of Moldova's trade.
'The US has decided to impose tariffs on 70 countries, including the Republic of Moldova, in an effort to balance trade that relates to the US. This means that about 2.5 percent of Moldova's external trade is affected. We understand the concerns of our producers who have worked continuously to gain access to the American market, and the government will step in to help those entrepreneurs maintain their competitiveness,' he said.
The Prime Minister added that the Republic of Moldova remains firmly committed to a strategic partnership with the US.
'It is a partnership of over 30 years, and we are firmly convinced that we will be able to continue and align with the objectives,' the official concluded.
The US has announced customs tariffs on 70 countries, including the Republic of Moldova. Thus, tariffs of 20% will be imposed on products imported from the European Union, 34% from China, 31% - Switzerland, 26% - India, 10% - the United Kingdom and 10% - Brazil.
