Moldova's agricultural sector benefits from financial support worth over 1.7 billion lei since early 2024

Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - The agricultural and rural development sector of Moldova this year has benefited from financial support worth over 1.7 billion lei (85 million euros), allocated so far, the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) has said.     

According to the quoted source, subsidies were provided to more key sectors. ‘’It is about the cultivation of fruits on protected grounds; procurement of irrigation equipment and construction of water reservoirs; investments in the vegetable, vine growing and animal husbandry sectors; modernization of the infrastructure for agricultural exploitations and the purchasing of modern equipment; development of the bee-keeping farms and promotion of the rural tourism,’’ MAIA said.  

Also, direct payments were allocated per head of animal worth 67.9 million lei. The Agency of Intervention and Payments for Agriculture (AIPA) approved 365 files for payment, being backed by breeders sheep, cattle and goats.  

At the same time, over 47 million lei was provided to 335 farmers hit by the severe drought from the 2023 year, partially compensating the losses borne by the crops of wheat and maize.  

„Over 151 million lei was provided for 185 files as direct payments per one kilogram produced,’’ the Agriculture Ministry
