National Bank of Moldova issues Mihai Eminescu commemorative coin

The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) has launched the commemorative coin Mihai Eminescu into numismatic circulation, which completes the series Classics Alley from the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden of Chisinau.

‘’We have launched this coin on the eve of the Romanian Language Day - August 31 - and thus we pay tribute to the great poet Mihai Eminescu, the voice of the depth and beauty of the Romanian language. Through his work, Eminescu voiced timeless universal values: freedom, dignity and love of country, which are just as relevant today and serve as landmarks for the future,’’ Governor of the National Bank of Moldova Anca Dragu stressed.

The commemorative issue is made in the context of the Mihai Eminescu Year, marking the 175th anniversary of the poet's birth, and coincides with the opening of the 14th edition of the World Congress of Eminescu Scholars, with the subject, Eminescu's Effigy in Art, organized under the aegis of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM).

The commemorative coin is issued in two versions: silver with a nominal value of 50 lei and a circulation of 1,000 units and gold with a nominal value of 100 lei and a circulation of 500 units.

Each piece is packaged in transparent metacrylate capsules and a presentation box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity bearing the signature of the BNM Governor. The certificate includes a QR code that provides direct access to information about the coin's features available on the official website of the National Bank.

The commemorative coins are sold to the general public both by the National Bank of Moldova, based on online applications submitted in the 'Coin' section on the institution's website, and through licensed banks of Moldova.

Licensed banks can independently set the sale price of jubilee and commemorative coins, a price that will not exceed by more than three percent the level established by the National Bank of Moldova.
