Head of Moldova's General Police Inspectorate explains Plahotniuc's extradition procedure: ''We cannot afford charter flights''

The head of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Viorel Cernauteanu, has explained how Vladimir Plahotniuc would be brought to Moldova, in case the Ministry of Justice of Greece issues a verdict for extradition. According to Cernauteanu, the transfer will be carried out with a regular flight, at the most advantageous price for the state budget, according to PRO TV Chișinău.

‘’Usually, at least three officers travel. We cannot afford charter flights for Plahotniuc. We hope to find funds in the budget for Economy Class tickets. We are looking for the most favorable prices, because it's public money,’’ he specified during an interview for Lorena Bogza's Podcast.

The IGP head noted that, according to the legislation, the extradition period is 30 days. During this time, the route and security measures for the extradited person and the accompanying officers are to be established.

‘’At the moment when the Ministry of Justice of the Greek state delivers the verdict, the package of documents will be submitted to Moldova’s Ministry of Justice. Subsequently, it will be redirected to the International Police Cooperation Directorate, in order to ensure the technical process of extradition,’’ Cernauteanu explained.

After arriving in Chisinau, Plahotniuc is to be presented to prosecutors and placed in preventive detention at Penitentiary No. 13.
