Spokesman for Moldova's government says Budget +Plus Project aims to increase Investments in key sectors, not electoral budget

The +Plus Budget, worth 8 billion lei, is a budget dedicated to development and increasing investments in key sectors and not an electoral one. The spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, made statements to this effect today.

He said that the project provided for the allocation of four billion for energy resilience and another four billion for economic projects and investments in settlements.

Daniel Voda also said that these funds complemented, not replaced, other measures. Also, they are not 'for elections', but to grow the economy, modernize the country and meet the real needs of people, the government’s spokesman emphasized.

‘’Criticisms that the Budget +Plus would have hidden purposes are unfounded. We are discussing transparently, even postponing a government meeting to allow time for debates. We call on all interested sides to contribute with concrete improvement proposals—not with speculations,’’ said Daniel Voda at the weekly government conference.

According to him, a good deal of the funds comes from European support, which means these are European taxpayers' money, which along with Moldovan’s one, ’’provides clear results.’’

Daniel Voda denied claims that the project is an electoral one.

'In the last four years, Moldova has organized elections every year. Halting investments under the pretext of campaigns would mean blocking development. Moldova needs investments, continuity and transparency—and Budget +Plus provides exactly this,’’ Daniel Voda noted.

The +Plus Budget is the largest financial package ever allocated by the government of Moldova for investments and economic growth. It includes financial resources totaling 8 billion lei. The document was approved by parliament in the first reading in the beginning of the last week. Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized that the allocations of resources had been possible thanks to support on behalf of the European Union and public service employees; they collaborated with European partners to accelerate the transfer of the first tranche from the Growth Plan for Moldova and the preparation of this budget's implementation.
