Moldovan PM conveys message on International Family Doctor Day
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today conveyed a message of gratitude on the occasion of International Family Doctor Day. The PM said that respect for doctors must mean investments, better working conditions and a stronger healthcare system.
“Today, on International Family Doctor Day, I want to convey a message of gratitude to all family doctors of Moldova. They are the ones who tell us we need to take the tests we have been postponing for months. They are the ones we call when our child has a fever and, within minutes, we descend into total panic. And, let’s admit it, they are also the ones who often know our medical history better than we know it ourselves. When we say: ‘It hurts a little’, they already know that this ‘little’ is worth checking, and when we say: ‘It will pass’, they remind us that health should not be put off until later,” said Alexandru Munteanu.
The prime minister emphasized that, for him, this day also had a personal significance.
“Tatiana, the family doctor who has been taking care of our family for more than 30 years, is one of those people who become more than just a doctor. She is the person who has been by our side in moments of concern, who has followed generations and who has always offered us not only treatments, but also confidence and peace of mind. Today, even our sons, who are overseas, continue to trust Mrs. Tatiana’s advice. And sometimes something happens that many families will probably recognize with a smile: we find out from Mrs. Tatiana that one of the boys has caught a cold before we even find out from them. Many of the family doctors in Moldova are like this. They do not just care for patients. They care for people, for families and for entire communities,” Prime Minister Munteanu noted.
Alexandru Munteanu stressed that “respect for doctors must mean more than words; it must mean investments, better working conditions and a stronger medical system in which those who take care of people feel that the state also takes care of them.”
“Thank you for the work you do every day. Happy Family Doctor Day to you all!” the PM concluded.
According to statistics data, more than 1,800 family doctors are working in Moldova. The International Family Doctor Day, marked annually on May 19, is an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the outstanding contribution that family doctors and primary healthcare teams make to our lives. They are the ones who ensure the first contact with the healthcare system, providing continuous care, active prevention and personalized support to each patient, regardless of age or social status.
