First meeting of National Commission for European Integration opens new chapter in Moldova's European journey

The first meeting of the National Commission for European Integration today was held under the auspices of President Maia Sandu. The event marks the beginning of a strategic phase in Moldova's accession to the European Union. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov made statements to this effect at a news conference.

According to the deputy MP, during the meeting, the head of state presented the overall vision for the country's European path for the next four years, while Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu highlighted ten key priorities in the accession process. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos participated in the discussions, providing the conclusions of the Enlargement Report and recommendations on the next stages of negotiations.

“Moldova has made significant progress in recent years, but we still have a lot of work to do. Joining the European Union is not just a political goal, but a profound transformation of the state, so that each citizen feels the benefits at home, better public services, a competitive economy and a solid rule of law,” said Cristina Gherasimov.

The deputy prime minister noted that the government aims for Moldova to conclude negotiations and be ready for accession by 2030. At the same time, Cristina Gherasimov emphasized that the visit of the European Commissioner to Chisinau represented “a strong signal of support and confidence on behalf of the European Union,” reaffirming the solid partnership between Moldova and member states.

The conference dedicated to the “2025 Enlargement Report” took place in Chisinau today. The event brough together representatives of Moldova’s  government, international partners, the academic community, the business sector, and civil society. The event aims to analyze the progress made by Moldova on its European path and to set priorities for 2026, based on the conclusions and recommendations formulated by the European Commission.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, on an official visit to Chisinau, also participated in the conference, presenting the report's conclusions and highlighting the areas where our country has made the most progress.
