Moldova makes progress on European path; Deputy PM for European integration says country ready for next level in negotiation process

Moldova’s progress in implementing the European Commission's recommendations concerning the fundamental negotiation chapters has been  analyzed in the second independent monitoring report, launched by the Expert-Grup analytical center in Chisinau on July 28.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, who said that, in one year alone, Moldova had taken concrete steps on the path to joining the European Union.

‘’We are nearing the completion of the process of analyzing the national legislation in relation to the European one; we have a National Accession Programme and we are ready to move to the next level in the negotiation process,’’ said Cristina Gherasimov.

According to the official, the report shows significant progress in more essential domains.

‘’Important progress has been made in most areas related to combating electoral corruption and promoting fundamental human rights. But we still have a lot of work to do. The European integration is a project for the entire society, and the changes we make are, first and foremost, for the benefit of those here, at home,’’ the deputy prime minister noted.

Cristina Gherasimov thanked the civil society for its involvement and expertise.

‘’We thank the civil society for partnership. I invite you further to team up, so that we can build the foundation of a European country: a just, safe, peaceful and prosperous Moldova, with the rule of law and functional democratic institutions, good governance, and quality public services.’’

The report launched today is part of an independent evaluation exercise, developed by Expert-Grup, in partnership with the member organizations of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum National Platform and refers to the progress made in the fields of justice, rule of law, fundamental rights and public administration’s reform. These fields are regarded as essential in the negotiations on accession to the European Union.
