PHOTO // Moldovan capital hosts International Congress of Anesthesia and Intensive Care: over 450 participants from seven countries

The International Congress of Anesthesia and Intensive Care takes place in Chisinau on September 12-14. The event brings together 452 participants – physicians, residents and medical assistants – and 62 speakers from the United Kingdom, France, Israel, Ukraine, Turkey, Romania and Moldova.

Over the three days, the schedule of the congress includes 36 sessions in the form of plenary conferences, round tables, case discussions and practical workshops. Topics addressed include pediatric Intensive Care Units (ICU), obstetric ICU, hemorrhage management, ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, organ transplantation, perioperative neurological complications and extracorporeal purification therapies.

Attending the event weas also Prime Minister Dorin Recean. He expressed the government's and society's gratitude to physicians for their tremendous work, vigilance and each life saved.

“Support for medical staff and infrastructure modernization are government’s priorities. We have increased doctors' salaries, invested in hospitals’ modernization, and are building a European health system accessible to each citizen. In the operating room, there are two critical moments: induction and awakening. On September 28, 2025, we have an equally important civic exercise – voting day. No deep sedation is needed there, but a vote cast with responsibility and a clear conscience. The path Moldova will follow after this critical moment depends on us all,” Recean said.

Health Minister Ala Nemerenco also emphasized the vital role of the ICU field for modern medicine.

“It is an honor to participate in the most important scientific event of the year for your professional community. The field of anesthesia and intensive care is one of the fundamental pillars of modern medicine. The COVID-19 pandemic has confirmed, more than ever, the importance and strength of the ICU sector,” the minister said.

She noted that, in the past four years, the government and the Ministry of Health had invested over 240 million lei in the modernization and endowment of ICU departments nationwide. Twenty-two departments have undergone major renovations, endowed with modern equipment and the medical system has been strengthened through the acquisition of ambulances, reanimobiles, oxygen stations, and the training of over 300 medical personnel.

At the same time, the medical system was strengthened through the purchasing of 127 electric generators, 40 oxygen production stations, 209 new ambulances and reanimobiles, and the training of over 300 medical personnel in the ICU field. Essential regulations regarding the organization of emergency reception units and the National Consultative Interhospital Transfer Service were also approved.
