Secretary of Energy Community: ''Energy Strategy 2050 will accelerate Moldova's path to EU membership''

Moldova is charting its course towards the European energy community, and the Energy Strategy 2050 will secure the country's energy future and accelerate its path to EU membership. Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Artur Lorkowski today made statements to this effect during the event on presentation of Moldova's Energy Strategy 2050.

The official emphasized that, in recent years, Moldova had made enormous strides towards a competitive energy market, modernized infrastructure, enhanced energy efficiency and consistently protected vulnerable consumers.

‘’You have made a brave choice necessary to face geopolitical, energy crises. You have made substantial progress towards a competitive energy market, modernized infrastructure, enhanced energy efficiency and consistently protected vulnerable people. The Strategy's objectives will help you proceed steadily on this path towards the EU. The Strategy will achieve its goals through three major priorities, which will be accomplished through ambitious actions. The document prioritizes security and resilience, acknowledging that energy is a national security aspect. It reduces critical dependencies, shielding the country from external shocks, making it more capable of withstanding harsh winters and reducing energy imports dependency by up to 40 per cent till 2050,’’ said Artur Lorkowski.

The Director of the Energy Community Secretariat noted that the launch of the Energy Strategy 2050 would secure Moldova's energy future. He highlighted that the Strategy put efficiency first, made clean energy a driver of development, and guaranteed citizens’ prosperity through a fair and inclusive transition. At the same time, Lorkowski said that Moldova was strengthening its role as a contracting party of the Energy Community Treaty and was speeding up its path to the European Union.

‘Through this Strategy, Moldova paves its way to the European energy community. Moreover, the Strategy will accelerate Moldova's path to EU membership,’ the official noted.

Artur Lorkowski assured that Moldova was not alone in its path to modernizing the energy sector, and the Energy Community Secretariat would support the country with technical assistance and necessary expertise.

‘’I urge all political forces, the business community, local authorities and civil society to see the Strategy as a joint project. The Strategy's success will be measured not just in MW, but in citizens' confidence that life can be stable and predictable. The Strategy's impact will be measured by investors' respect for the rules of the game and Moldova's voice presented at the European table. Moldova has its place in Europe, and energy is the key that opens this door,’’ concluded the Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.

Moldova's Energy Strategy 2050 was presented by the Ministry of Energy in Chisinau today. The document includes more objectives to be achieved in the coming years, in order to strengthen the country's energy independence. These include increasing the share of renewable energy, creating new energy interconnections with Romania, investing in modernizing the energy infrastructure, improving the energy efficiency of public buildings and individual houses, reducing citizens' energy invoices and protecting the most vulnerable consumers through targeted compensations.
