Public Discussions held on Economic Growth Plan for Moldova

Public discussions on the Economic Growth Plan for Moldova have started. Representatives from the government, business environment, civil society and local authorities launched consultations on the Reform Agenda, which supports this plan for the country's transformation and modernization.

Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov said that transparency and collaboration with all involved actors were important in the processes of taking decisions with major impact on the country's future.

“All the actions we are about to undertake aim to meet the real needs of the citizens and bring concrete changes to people's lives through accessible public services for everybody, modern roads, hospitals, schools, better conditions for entrepreneurs and a more competitive economy,” Gherasimov said.

The official thanked all those who contributed to this joint effort to achieve the country’s national goal - the accession of Moldova to the EU.

Moldova will benefit from unprecedented assistance amounting to 1.9 billion euros on behalf of the European Union. The funds will be allocated for the implementation of our country's Economic Growth Plan, with the first installment  due to be granted in late next April.

The prime minister appreciated the constant support for the modernization of  Moldova according to the European model, emphasizing that the allocated sum for the Growth Plan would amplify the efforts of Moldovan authorities in implementing reforms and improving the people’s quality of life. According to the PM, next month, the government will present a concrete plan for the use of the offered funds.

“This money is not just figures on paper - they mean investments in major projects with significant benefits for citizens, like 3,000 km of repaired roads, 35 model schools, industrial platforms to attract factories and plants to create jobs. This is what the European Union is about - a family which supports us when we need it and invests in our future,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean at his meeting with  Director General of the European Commission's Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Directorate-General (DG NEAR) Gert Jan Koopman.

The Growth Plan for Moldova is based on three pillars, which focus on support for social and economic progress, access to the European single market and financial support for the carrying out of investment projects.
