Moldovan energy minister says natural gas acquisitions from Neptun Deep Project to supply about one quarter of Moldova's consumption needs

Natural gas acquisitions from the Neptun Deep project will supply about one quarter of Moldova's consumption needs. Deliveries might start in 2027. Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu has unveiled details to this effect, after the Energocom Company signed a purchase contract with OMV Petrom, which will allow Moldova to procure natural gas from the strategic Neptun Deep project.

“From the moment gas production starts, we will benefit from about one quarter of our natural gas consumption from the Neptun Deep deposit,” said Dorin Junghietu.

According to him, the contract signed by Energocom with OMV Petrom benefits the country, as diversifying sources of natural gas supply strengthens the energy security.

The minister also spoke referred to the prices of gas from the Neptun Deep deposit. “The price is a confidential aspect, but follows the market index and a discount,” said Dorin Junghietu. He also said that there were premises that this contract would positively influence the average purchase price of natural gas in Moldova.

According to the minister, gas extraction from the Neptun Deep deposit might begin in 2027.

Energocom today informed that it had signed its first long-term purchase contract with OMV Petrom, under which natural gas from the strategic Neptun Deep project will be bought. This is the largest natural gas project in the Black Sea and the first deep-sea offshore project from Romania. Neptun Deep has estimated reserves of about 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which will contribute to positioning Romania as the largest natural gas producer in the European Union.

Deliveries will be made at the virtual trading point (VTP) in Romania, ensuring a constant flow of natural gas for Moldova.
