President met with Head of Council of Europe Office in Chișinău
President Maia Sandu met today with Falk Lange, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chișinău, whose mandate ends on 1 August 2026.
The Head of State thanked Falk Lange for his contribution to strengthening the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe and for supporting our country’s reform agenda, especially in the fields of justice, combating corruption and money laundering, as well as aligning national legislation with European standards. In this context, the President highlighted the important role of the expertise provided by the Venice Commission and the recommendations of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) in advancing justice reform and anti-corruption policies.
The Head of State also appreciated the cooperation during the Moldovan Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which concluded in May with important results for the whole of Europe. These include the agreement on the Management Committee of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine and the launch of negotiations on a legal instrument to combat foreign information manipulation. During the Presidency, the Chisinau Declaration on Social Rights was also adopted.
The officials discussed the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2025–2028, which brings together cooperation programmes through which the organisation supports reforms in the justice sector, the fight against corruption and the protection of human rights in the Republic of Moldova. President Maia Sandu reaffirmed our country’s commitment to continue close cooperation with the Council of Europe.
