Economic agents from Moldova’s Transnistrian region in 2025 continued to conduct foreign trade activities predominantly with the member states of the European Union (EU).

According to data provided by the Customs Service, imports from the EU accounted for 48 per cent of total imports in the region, while exports to the EU market represented 71 per cent of all trade activities. The main export destinations within the European Union were Romania, Poland and Italy.

During the previous year, the competent national authorities issued 3,894 certificates of origin for goods for economic agents from the Transnistrian region, of which 2,099 confirmed the preferential origin of goods in trade with EU member states. These figures show the consolidation of trade relations with European markets and the deepening of economic alignment with the rules of the single market.

It should be emphasized that, over the last four years, the holding of foreign trade transactions through the checkpoints monitored by the Customs Service of Moldova and the use of nationally standardized permits have had a significant impact on the process of the region’s economic reintegration. The adaptation of logistical chains has fostered a pronounced reorientation of trade from the Transnistrian region towards the European Union, while also contributing to the strengthening of economic ties between the two banks of the Dniester River and to the uniform enforcement of trade standards and procedures throughout the territory of Moldova.

Recent developments confirm the sustainable orientation of the Transnistrian region towards the European Union market, strengthening economic interaction between the two banks of the Dniester River and contributing to the process of Moldova’s economic reintegration into the European space.
