CNESP adopted measures on new strain B.1.1.529 of coronavirus
Chişinău, 29 nov. / MOLDPRES /-A meeting of the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission was convened as a matter of urgency on 28 November in connection with the emergence of the new strain B.1.1.529 - Omicron - of the new type of coronavirus and its classification as a concern by the World Health Organization, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
CNESP has decided to set a 14-day quarantine regime for Moldovan citizens arriving from eight southern African states (South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini and Malawi). Quarantine may be discontinued after the 7th day if the individuals concerned perform a negative PCR test. It was also established the prohibition of access to the territory of the Republic of Moldova of foreign citizens and stateless persons who have traveled in these countries in the last 14 days. At the same time, the Commission discussed the possibility of further introducing further measures on persons arriving from countries considered to be at risk of transmitting the new strain, and epidemiological developments and passenger flows will be closely monitored in the coming days.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration was also tasked with taking the necessary measures to determine whether there are citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the above-mentioned states and what repatriation measures can be taken for them.
The Commission recommends avoiding travel abroad in the eight countries, as well as in other countries where cases of Omicron infection have been detected, and emphasized during the discussions the importance of prior information on the epidemiological situation in the countries of destination.
