Moldovan PM has meeting with U.S. Ambassador

Strengthening economic cooperation, attracting American investments in the national economy and developing joint projects in areas of mutual interest have been the main topics discussed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and new Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Joseph Mark Burkhalter.

The PM highly appreciated the relationship between Moldova and the United States and emphasized the government’s interest in developing this partnership through concrete projects that will benefit both countries. In the context, the sides discussed investment opportunities in logistics, agriculture, road and railway infrastructure, as well as in other sectors with development potential.

“Moldova can be a very good destination for American investments. Although we are a small market, we can be faster and more agile in providing an environment in which companies can invest and subsequently serve larger markets. In this regard, we are determined to reduce bureaucracy and create attractive conditions for investors,” said Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

In the context, the PM reiterated his invitation to American companies to invest in Moldova and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the country. Vasile Tofan emphasized that the goal was to attract investments that create jobs and added value in Moldova, while also providing American companies with new growth opportunities.

The prime minister also said that Moldova seeks a strong transatlantic relationship and cooperation focused on practical results. Vasile Tofan emphasized that  Moldova’s decision to reduce tariffs on imports from the United States to zero is proof of its openness to deepening the bilateral economic relations.

Another topic of discussion concerned the cooperation in the energy sector. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan expressed Moldova’s interest in importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States and in the possibility of concluding long-term contracts.

The parties agreed to continue the dialogue, in order to identify concrete projects and new opportunities for economic, investment and energy cooperation between Moldova and the United States.
