Moldovan president awards Order of Honour to honorary consuls of Moldova in Denmark, Brazil

The Presidency of the Republic of Moldova

President Maia Sandu today awarded the Order of Honour to Asser Mortensen, Honorary Consul of Moldova in the Kingdom of Denmark, and Flavio Mendes Bitelman, Honorary Consul of Moldova in the Federative Republic of Brazil. The distinctions were conferred in recognition of their longstanding contribution to the development and strengthening of friendly and cooperative relations between Moldova and Denmark, respectively Brazil, as well as for promoting the image and interests of Moldova abroad.

Honorary consuls are individuals who voluntarily represent the interests of Moldova in the country where they reside. As a rule, they are citizens of that country. They provide assistance to Moldovan citizens there and support economic, cultural and educational cooperation, particularly in countries and regions where Moldova does not have an embassy or consulate.

Asser Mortensen and Flavio Mendes Bitelman have held this position since 2015. The two honorary consuls are in Chisinau to participate in the meeting of the honorary consuls of Moldova, organized by the Foreign Affairs Ministry on October 2.
