EUROSECURITY │ Moldovan authorities pursue rapprochement, harmonization of tax regimes on both banks of Dniester

The Government of the Republic of Moldova

Moldova as of September 1, 2026, has taken a new step in the process of the economic and fiscal integration of the Transnistrian region. The value added tax (VAT) and excise duties have begun to be applied to certain categories of goods introduced into the Transnistrian region, as part of a gradual process through which the authorities are pursuing the rapprochement and, ultimately, the harmonization of tax regimes on both banks of the Dniester River.

At the same time, the Moldovan authorities are working on the Reintegration Plan and have established the Convergence Fund, an instrument aimed at gradually reducing the economic and social disparities between the two banks of Dniester and supporting the reintegration process.

What do the new fiscal measures entail, what are the objectives of the Reintegration Plan, and how will the Convergence Fund contribute to the economic and social rapprochement of the two banks?

Further details about these measures and the reintegration process were provided by Ivan Turcan, head of the Analytical and Information Section at the Reintegration Policies Bureau, during the Eurosecurity programme, broadcast by Vocea Basarabiei.
