Moldovan parliament speaker has farewell meeting with Ambassador of Lithuania

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu on August 25 had a farewell meeting with Ambassador of Lithuania to Moldova Tadas Valionis, who is concluding his diplomatic mission in Chisinau.

The speaker thanked the Lithuanian diplomat for his personal contribution to strengthening the relations between Moldova and Lithuania, as well as for the continuous support provided to the country during an important period for Moldova’s European path and for consolidating its security.

“Over these four years, the relationship between Moldova and Lithuania has become even stronger. We have had by our side a friend who supported us both in difficult times and in historic moments for our country. I thank Ambassador Tadas Valionis for his contribution and for his sincere friendship toward Moldova,” said the parliament speaker.

In recent years, the bilateral cooperation has expanded into areas that are crucial for the modernization and strengthening of the state – public administration, European affairs, environment, agriculture, health, security, defense, strategic communication and countering disinformation.

The cooperation in the field of security and defense has held a special place. It has been deepened through training, exchanges of experience and support for developing the capacities of the National Army. At the same time, the two countries have strengthened their collaboration in the areas of cybersecurity, strategic communication and combating hybrid threats.

The parliament speaker also praised the very positive dynamics of the parliamentary diplomacy. In April 2023, Igor Grosu paid an official visit to Vilnius, where he held meetings with Lithuania’s top leadership, including President Gitanas Nausėda, Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen and Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.

The dialogue between the two legislatures has continued through regular visits and contacts. In February 2026, the speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas, together with his counterparts from Estonia and Latvia, was in Chisinau for discussions on European integration, regional security and deepening cooperation between our countries.

Igor Grosu underlined that Moldova continued to count on Lithuania’s steadfast support for advancing accession negotiations and implementing the reforms required for integration into the European Union.

“Lithuania knows from its own experience how transformative accession to the European Union can be for a country. Today we need this experience and this strong voice inside the EU. We will continue to develop the relationship between our countries, and I am convinced that Lithuania will stand by us until the day when Moldova becomes a member state of the European Union,” concluded he parliament speaker.

At the end of the meeting, the speaker wished Ambassador Tadas Valionis much success in his future endeavors and told him that he would always remain a welcome friend of Moldova.
