Moldovan parliament speaker thanks UNICEF representative in Moldova for support in social reforms, child protection

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had a farewell meeting with Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Moldova Maha Damaj.

The speaker emphasized that, thanks to the support of UNICEF Moldova, significant progress had been made in such key areas as education and child protection. “In the last five years, we have expanded children’s access to quality education and health services, developed better services for children at risk and continued the process of integrating them into family and community environments,” Igor Grosu noted.

The parliament speaker also expressed his appreciation for UNICEF’s support in implementing the RESTART reform in the social system. Igor Grosu said that the authorities continued to count on support for the implementation of this reform, which contributes to strengthening the social assistance system and to training specialists who work directly with children and vulnerable families.

“Our priority is children. We will continue to invest in the development of inclusive education, the expansion of mental health services and psychosocial support for children, as well as in the implementation of the European Child Guarantee and in bringing Moldova closer to European standards,” added Igor Grosu.

Maha Damaj has been the Representative of the UNICEF Country Office in Moldova since February 2021.
