The Republic of Moldova celebrates its 34th anniversary of Independence today with a historic event in Chisinau, featuring the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Poland's Prime Minister, Donald Tusk—three European leaders who came to express their firm support for the European future of the country.

The presence of these European leaders on the country’s national day represents a strong signal of friendship and respect towards the people, as well as a clear affirmation that the European path of the Republic of Moldova is not a distant dream, but a shared project in progress.

During a press conference with the three officials, President Maia Sandu said: “Today, Moldova is not just known, it is respected. We have shown that we are worthy and that our place is in the European family. Our independence and future are in our hands and we have no right to lose them.”

President Emmanuel Macron reconfirmed that France would stay alongside the Republic of Moldova in the European integration process and emphasized that “Moldova is part of the European family through the values it defends. Together we want to send a message of friendship, solidarity and trust in our shared future.”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk, for his part, highlighted that “Europe will be stronger with Moldova—your resilience, your values, and your voice will enrich our Union.”

At the same time, Chancellor Friedrich Merz reiterated that “Germany, France, and Poland stand alongside a free and European Moldova.”

France, Germany, and Poland have proven to be steadfast supporters of the Republic of Moldova, actively contributing to the country's modernization and advancing the European integration process. From political and diplomatic support to economic investments, infrastructure projects, and programs aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, these three states have been by Moldova’s side during key moments of the country's transformation.

The visit of the three leaders concluded this evening. After 20:00 alongside President Maia Sandu, President Macron, Chancellor Merz, and Prime Minister Tusk addressed citizens on the main stage of the country, on the Great National Assembly Square.
