PM on Independence Day says independence unites Moldovans through wish to live in free country, through responsibility to build together future of peace, prosperity

Prime Minister Dorin Recean, together with President Maia Sandu and the Speaker of Parliament, Igor Grosu, laid flowers at the Grieving Mother monument at the Eternity Memorial Complex and at the monument to Ruler Stephen the Great and Holy, on the Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean congratulated the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the occasion of marking the 34th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

‘’Independence unites us through the wish to live in a free country, through the care we have for each other, through the responsibility to build together a future of peace and prosperity and also when we raise our children with love for the nation,’’ said the prime minister in his message.

The PM emphasized the respect for those who had sacrificed everything for our freedom: 'Today, just as 34 years ago, we have to continue the fight for a sovereign, secure and prosperous Moldova—a state where we all live in peace. Let's be united, let us maintain independence, dear people of Moldova!'

Alongside the three leaders, cabinet members, MPs, lawmakers of the first parliament, employees of central public institutions and citizens also laid flowers.

On Independence Day, the Republic of Moldova is visited by European leaders. Today, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz and Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk are coming to Chisinau. Today  evening, the officials, along with President Maia Sandu will deliver a speech at the concert organized by the government.

Citizens are expected at a concert on the Great National Assembly Square starting at 18:00.

The Republic of Moldova proclaimed its Independence on August 27, 1991. This year's celebration is organized with the subject, Independence Unites Us.
