Romanian PM conveys congratulations, firm support to Moldova on Independence Day

Romania's Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has conveyed a congratulatory message to Moldova on the occasion of Independence Day, reaffirming Romania's unwavering support for Moldova's aspirations.

“Romania will stay a steadfast supporter of Moldova's aspirations and the Romanians across the Prut, as it has proved in the 34 years since the state's independence declaration,” Bolojan said.

The Romanian PM emphasized the unique relation between the two states, based on language, culture, history and traditions, which created the “space of friendship and solidarity between our states.”

At the same time, the Romanian prime minister highlighted Romania's multidimensional support for Moldova's European path, considering it a “natural step in the fraternal relationship.”

Bolojan also said that, regardless of the times, Romania would continue to face current challenges alongside Moldova and would remain a support point for the brothers across the Prut, on their path to prosperity and European rights and freedoms.

“As I clearly said just a few days ago in Chisinau, regardless of times, we will face the challenges together and we will continue to be the support point for our brothers across the Prut who aspire to a better life, prosperity and the rights and freedoms provided by the European status. Happy Independence Day to Moldova and its citizens!” the Romanian PM concluded.

On August 27, 1991, Moldova's parliament voted for the Declaration of Independence, marking the country's separation from the Soviet Union and asserting its sovereignty. Just days after this historic moment, Romania was the first country to officially recognize Moldova's independence.
