
Moldovan, European officials approach EU accession
Chisinau, Oct. 25 /MOLDPRES/- On a official visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Dorin Recean had meetings with European Commission Vice-President Vera Jourová, European commissioner for economy Paolo Gentiloni and Director-General of the Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations Gert Jan Koopman. They discussed government's priorities in Moldova's integration into the European Union, justice reform, as well as opportunities for deepening cooperation in key areas aimed at the economic development of our country, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
In discussions with Vera Jourová, Recean referred to the implementation process of the nine recommendations of the European Commission. He thanked the European official for recognizing the efforts of the authorities in carrying out the reforms.
"The government is firmly committed to carrying out justice reform, continuing the fight against corruption and carrying out the de-oligarchization plan. They are our priorities both in the process of joining the European Union and in the economic development of the country. We are counting on the support of the European Commission for the opening of accession negotiations", he said.
Recean approached the opportunities for the development of the national economy and the financial support projects of the European Union with Paolo Gentiloni.
He thanked the official for the EU assistance, especially for the support worth 250 million euros, as macro-financial assistance and direct budget support. At the same time, he appreciated the European Commission's proposal to increase financial support for our country, in the context of the revision of the EU Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027.
In the discussion with Gert Jan Koopman, Recean reiterated the firm determination of our country to move forward on the agenda of European reforms and expressed Moldova's openness to deepen relations with the European institutions.
